7.50 Rating - KINGDOM OF PARADISE - by Xeon

I was expecting more from this game before I bought it, after seeing videos and screenshots online, but after playing it, I felt it should have been better designed.

The game is lacking, in many ways, only the bosses and full motion video are worth seeing. The rest is a bit bland and boring since swords do little damage and power chi effects do all the real work of damage. -- Rating: 7.50

8.00 Rating - GRAND THEFT AUTO: LIBERTY CITY STORIES - by Xeon

Running people over is the highlight of any Grand Theft Auto.

The missions are fairly simple once you get used to the controls of the game and learn how to drive (over people) better.

Graphically, this game is well done, but I still say they should have released screenshots long before the game was due instead of holding out like a bunch of bitches.

I haven't got very far in the game as of yet, since I've been play all my other games, but one thing I don't like to do in this game is die. Dying in the game sucks, Learn how not to die. Then you will go far. -- Rating: 8.00

7.25 Rating - NEED FOR SPEED MOST WANTED 5-1-0 - by Xeon

Fuck the police, they piss me off, always trying to knock me off the road. The bastards.

If it weren't for the police cars always trying to push you around in this game, I might actually like it more. Though the soundtrack for this game doesn't fit as well for my brain as does the soundtrack for Need For Speed Underground Rivals on PSP.

The races themselves are fairly simple, but I wish I could use a custom control setup, and not the stock A and B choices of manual and automatic.

Again, I say, fuck the police, they piss me off. -- Rating: 7.25

7.50 Rating - X-MEN LEGENDS II: RISE OF THE APOCALYPSE - by Xeon

With the assistants of the other team members, both friend and foe, you get to kick some ass in a four person team.

I prefer setting my character skill level upgrades to automatic so that I don't have to worry about adjusting them, since the game is fairly easy with all the help from the other team members that travel with you.

The graphics and gameplay are very nice, though I think Magneto should talk less when fighting.

There is a lot of dialog in the game when you talk to people to find out what your next destination is, so expect that to take a while from time to time. -- Rating: 7.50

8.00 Rating - THE CON - by Xeon

Street fighting at it's finest. Sure, the salesman at EBGames told me I shouldn't buy the game, but I told him I wanted it anyway.

This game takes a bit of strategy beyond just punching and kicking to make your way to the top. You also have to bet on yourself or the opponent, and if you fuck up the bet and cause the other bet takers to believe that you just took a dive, they will beat your fucking ass and steal your fucking money, YO!

You better come prepared to not always win the fight. Take a dive, bet on the opponent, punch them a few times hard and fast, wait for the timer to hit zero on the bet timer, then wait it out and make sure to fight back, take the fall, and make sure you don't knock out the opponent as you fight to keep the crowd happy. If you can pull it off, all the time, you are a better player than me. Cause I've done it a few times, and it ain't easy. This game will make you think.

If you raise enough funds, and can prove yourself worthy to the rest of the teams, you can make your way to the ultimate fight. Though you must raise $100,000.00 starting with the $500.00 you start with. Bet wisely, take the dive when it's best, and be sure not to waste all your cash on bullshit items in the shop. -- Rating: 8.00

8.75 Rating - MEDIEVEL RESURRECTION - by Xeon

Dark and yet so fun to play. This game makes Death Jr. seem so normal. The boss designs, full motion video cut scenes, character, and enemy designs are very well thought out and accomplished. I enjoyed playing this game all the way to the very end.

There are a few mini games you can play in the game to win prizes. If you complete and win all the mini games you will get the best weapon this game has to offer.

Beyond just vivid gameplay, this game has some interesting jokes and pokes fun at your character thoughout his journey. I love it when the guy in the Hall of Heroes says this to my character, "Your dress sense offends me and your breath smells of earth." -- Rating: 8.75

7.75 Rating - BURNOUT: LEGENDS - by Xeon

Smashing your opponents into the walls or into other cars is fun, and the best part of the game. You can score more points by causing accidents than you do actually winning the race.

In a few pursuit mode events, where you race using a police car, I was able to cause the criminal car to crash within 20 seconds on two different courses. The first time was in compact mode, in 19.98 seconds.

Compact: Police car crashed into wall, flew into the air, dropped directly onto the chase car, and won gold. Purely by accident. Pun not intended. Time: 19.98 seconds.

Muscle: Forced chase car into a bus. Crashed with them, but still won the gold. Time: 19.74 seconds.

There are two main types of gameplay in this game. One is the main touring, and the second is the crash touring. On the crash touring, your goal is to just smash up vehicles and score points within a time limit. There are 100 crash courses, but after you complete about 33 of them, you'll bore of it and want to go back to the main touring.

On the main touring events and courses, it's always fun to try and smash the opponents cars as much as possible to enable longer boosts, ride into oncoming traffic, or drift around corners too, but try to avoid smashing into the regular peoples vehicles, as they will cause you to crash. When you crash, you lose boosts. -- Rating: 7.75

6.75 Rating - DEATH JR. - by Xeon

CONTROLS CONTROLS CONTROLS!!!

This game lacks good controls over the character, to the point where I wish the PSP came with a second joystick control to allow true 3D control over Death Jr. The controls make it difficult to make it through some levels, to the point where I want to slam the system down on the floor.

If you go into a level early on in the game, and witness the enemies in that level, but don't complete it, then later go into another level with newer enemies, and then complete that level with the newer enemies, those newer enemies will now appear in the other level, causing it to be more difficult to complete than it would have been before. Once you've gain weapons to destroy those beasts, those beasts won't leave you alone.

I personally would enjoy this game more, if there were more levels, with overall shorter durations to go through them. It's a total bummer to go through one level for a butt load of time only to end up dying at the end before it's completed, just to have to start over from the beginning again, and again, and again. If it weren't for the lack of controls over the character, this wouldn't be an issue.

Other than the downfalls of the game, the overall design of the game concept and art, especially the full motion videos, are very well done and deserve special treatment.

If they ever make a sequel to this game, I hope they make the controls over movement and positioning easier, and more enjoyable. It's a bitch trying to shoot at something with the zoom shot, as it moves way to fast to home in on an enemy. Why have that ability anyway if it sucks major ass?

Someday, the creators of this game will realize that a good game requires good controls, and not just awesome video, interesting story line along with some creative enemies and beasts. -- Rating: 6.75

8.25 Rating - CODED ARMS - by Joel

Where to begin? How about like this. So many people have been waiting on the next killer App for their PSPs. Is this it? Well that all depends. Coded Arms is a visually gorgeous game with some very fun ideas. I have to say that even though the game case claims there is blood in the game, it doesn't really make sense. See, the whole world is all virtual reality. They're all robots and such. In this one level I was in, there was a swarm of "Bugs" and yes, your character can get a virus. Unfortunately, though the levels are randomly generated there is almost kind of a--shall we say, generic look to them. Sure they're beautiful, and kudos for their first RPG outing, but I still have to say that I see graphical tearing. The floor has tearing, walls, etc; every so often. It's not necessarily distracting, just looking like it could have been polished a bit more is all. Is it fun? It's a LOT of fun. On one condition. If you play it constantly, you'll begin to kind of realize its shortcomings: Generic-ness, Spotty Enemy AI (Artificial Intelligence can either be too hard or downright stupid at times) and looping techno whenever enemies are nearby. The weapons are fun, and the leveling up on weapons is a good idea. I also like when you get locked in a room and get forced to kills between 5-8 or more enemies at a time. Although, I usually don't have a problem scouting out for Health Plus signs and keeping my life above half. I like their idea about the virtual reality, but a DOOM I and II port would have been more than sufficient for me. -- Rating: 8.25

8.00 Rating - ARCHER MACLEAN'S MERCURY - by Joel

I had heard a lot of good things about this so-called Mercury game for the PSP, some even saying it's better than Lumines. I have to say, hearing that I was shocked, and when Xeon handed me this delightful UMD to pop in, I had to see for myself.

The cut-scenes are gorgeous. The liquid mercury is so cool looking when you split it and you can paint it and mix colors. Frickin' awesome. You're given a lot of fairly easy, straightforward levels to start off with, and if it weren't for the help tips you're given at the beginning of the level, you'd be screwed.

I had a lot of fun playing Mercury. Is it "better" than Lumines? No. This game is more of an acquired taste, whereas Lumines is good for the mainstream/general populace anytime, anywhere. Mercury though, teases the brain a little more, but once you're done with Mercury, the replay value I'd say is pretty much chopped.

To its credit, though, there is a lot of originality to the title, and if you're looking for something different, it will more than likely not disappoint. -- Rating: 8.00
